In a March 25, 1936 article titled, “Las Aspiraciones del Partido Nacionalista,” Don Pedro provided a brief list to demonstrate how Puerto Ricans have always been at the “vanguard of modern civilization.”
Note: In outlining these historical Puerto Rican figures, it is recognized that it consists only of males. This is a valid critique of Don Pedro’s selections, as well as a sober reminder of the social forces that repressed women and hindered their participation in many aspects of social life.
