Don Pedro’s call to hold a constitutional convention saw its greatest expression in 1936, the same year that he and several other nationalist leaders were charged with and convicted of seditious conspiracy. While it can be understood why the seditious conspiracy trial and its conclusion succeeded in squashing Don Pedro’s attempt to accomplish the holding of a constitutional convention, it is unclear why researchers have failed in writing more about and contextualizing this by no means insignificant effort.
